学歴社会
韓国は凄まじい学歴社会で、ここまで学歴にこだわるお国柄というのも、
ほかには絶対にあり得ません。
韓国人にとって、大学とは義務教育の範疇のようなもので、幾ら進学するか
しないかの選択肢があろうとも、まず進学することを前提にし、高校に入った
瞬間から猛勉強が始まります。
驚くことに、韓国の高校には12時間目というのがあり、給食は昼のみならず、
夜も提供されるのです。
韓国では、大学に進学しなかった人は、人生の落伍者として扱われます。
高卒の男性は社会の全ての面で冷遇され、結婚するのも難しくなります。
相手が、男性の学歴を何よりも先にチェックするからです。
では、どうしてこのように学歴社会が過熱してしまったのでしょうか？
それは、古くは儒教の教えによるもの、という言い伝えもあります。
儒教では教育というものが何よりも尊いものとされていて、その名残が
現在の形になり、残っているというのです。
しかし何より、社会全体を変えようとしても、一人でやることは難しいです。
みんなが勉強している姿を見てプレッシャーを感じ、自分も頑張ろうという
気持ちになってしまいます。
そして、韓国の親は非常に教育熱心で、子供のために体を張って受験勉強を
サポートします。
このシステムを断つ術がまだ見つかっていないのが、一番辛いことだろうと
思います。

Academic meritocracy
South Korea has terrible academic meritocracy.
Koreans are particular about educational background.

The most terrible fact is that the way of breaking up this system has not been found yet.
