Jajangmyeon & Valentine's Day

The culture of Valentine's Day originally comes from Japan.
There is also a custom to give the chocolate to those who you love on 14th February in South Korea.

Jajangmyeon, the noodles covered with the black sauce, is significantly related to it.

How is the relationship between Valentine's Day and jajangmyeon?

In South Korea, Valentine's Day is much more lively than in Japan.
People who did not get chocolates and sweets from anyone feel miserable.

Women received candies from men on 14th March, but again women who did not receive anything feel miserable.

There is a custom that these lonely people who did not receive anything eat jajangmyeon to comfort each other on 14th April.

Since the sauce of jajangmyeon is black, the day is called a black day.

One of reasons why jajangmyeon is eaten is that the black sauce suggests somewhat a dark heart.

It is said that black color is the symbol of the lonely feeling of people who did not get anything on Valentine's Day.

Due to such a Korean unique culture, Valentine's Day is important event for young people every year as they are destined to get love or eat jajangmyeon.
